Banana bread with nuts and chocolate pieces

Today I want to share my favorite healthy banana bread recipe with you.

Who doesn't love banana bread? It is now one of my favorite cakes to bake. Especially when it's still lukewarm, I couldn't get enough of it. But banana bread can be a small calorie bomb. So if you want to pay a little attention to it, you have to control yourself - but you can also simply bake a reduced-sugar version for a healthy banana bread. For example with this recipe!

The recipe is super easy to modify and that's what I love about it. If you just swap out one ingredient, you'll have a completely different flavor. And the basic dough can be easily combined with nuts, chocolate and fruit - so you can make your own thing out of it!

This healthy banana bread recipe is super easy. The banana bread with chocolate chips is moist and soft and can easily be veganized. By adding applesauce, the banana bread does not require any butter or oil. The walnuts and chocolate chips can of course be replaced with any other nuts or fruits if necessary.

Let's go!

Ingredients for a banana bread

3-4 very ripe bananas

Eggs or vegan egg substitute

2 THE Agave syrup

120 g unsweetened applesauce

1 TL Vanilla extract

250 g Spelt whole grain flour

50 g chopped walnuts (or nuts of your choice)

60 g Bittersweet chocolate drops

½ Packet of baking powder

1 TL Cinnamon

Pinch of salt

Aid: Loaf tin, 2 mixing bowls, mixer

preparation

Zutaten für das Bananenbrot mit Nüssen und Schokodrops

Teig für Bananenbrot in Kastenform

  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC top/bottom heat. Grease the baking pan or line it with baking paper.
  2. Mash the bananas in a bowl until a pulp forms. Add the applesauce. Add the remaining liquid ingredients (eggs or egg substitute, vanilla extract and agave syrup) and mix everything together well.
  3. In another bowl, mix the baking powder, flour, cinnamon and a pinch of salt together and add to the liquid ingredients.
  4. Mix everything well until a dough is formed.
  5. Then fold in the nuts and chocolate drops and pour the finished dough into the loaf pan. Now more chocolate drops can be distributed on the dough for decoration.
  6. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes. Use a chopstick to check whether the banana bread is cooked and then, when it is finished baking, take it out of the oven and let it cool. Then cut into approx. 1 cm wide pieces.

Preparation time: approx. 50 minutes (10 minutes preparation + 40 minutes baking time)

* results in 12 pieces
