Golden milk - the Ayurvedic trend drink, the body and soul warms
A turmeric latte (also called "golden milk") is more than just a trendy drink! Packed with healthy ingredients, it boosts the immune system and warms the body from within. The drink has been prepared for many, many years and originates from the Indian Ayurvedic tradition. The golden milk recipe can be seen as a complement or substitute for tea or coffee.
Since there has been a lot of talk on the blog lately about Ayurveda went and Nutrition in ancient Indian teachings plays a major role, I thought an Ayurvedic recipe was a must! I chose the Turmeric Latte because the recipe is simple and versatile, reflecting everything Ayurveda stands for. When warmed, with healthy ingredients and plenty of spices, Golden Milk is the perfect alternative to a traditional latte. I also like recipes that are easy to adapt, and that's exactly what you can do here. Depending on whether you prefer something a little spicier or sweeter, simply adjust the amount of the respective spices!
Is the turmeric latte healthy?
Turmeric, the drink's main ingredient, is said to have numerous health-promoting properties. Turmeric not only has anti-inflammatory properties but also stimulates the metabolism and aids digestion. It's also perfect for a cold, for example!
Another important aspect of Ayurvedic nutrition is the right combination of ingredients. This is also evident here: black pepper and coconut oil increase the bioavailability of curcumin (from the turmeric root) and thus improve its absorption into the bloodstream.
The ginger contained in golden milk is also very healthy. Ginger is rich in vitamin C, stimulates the metabolism, and has a virostatic effect, inhibiting the spread of viruses.
The Turmeric Latte tastes refreshing and is a true taste experience: sweet meets hot meets spicy!
How do you make a turmeric latte?
The special thing about the turmeric latte is that it starts with a turmeric paste, which is then stirred into the hot milk. The whole thing is then seasoned with spices. You'll learn exactly how this works below. The quantities in this recipe are for one large cup of turmeric latte. However, it's a good idea to mix more of the paste to keep a little on hand. The turmeric paste can be stored in the refrigerator (in an airtight container) for several weeks, and you can even freeze it!
Traditionally, golden milk is consumed warm. However, for a more refreshing summer version, you can also let the drink cool and enjoy it cold with ice cubes.
So, enough talking – let’s get started!
Golden Milk Recipe
Ingredients for the turmeric paste:
1 tbsp Turmeric powder
120 ml Water
15 g Ginger (approx.1 thumb size)
Ingredients for a large cup of turmeric latte
½ tbsp Turmeric paste
300 ml Plant milk (almond milk is particularly suitable here)
1 tsp Cinnamon (ground)
1 tsp Coconut oil
1 pinch each black pepper, nutmeg & cardamom (ground)
Sweeteners of your choice (I used 1 teaspoon of coconut blossom sugar)
Tools: 2 small pots, whisk, grater, possibly tea strainer

preparation
- To make the turmeric paste, combine 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder with 120 ml of water in a saucepan and heat. Finely grate the ginger and add it. Heat until a paste forms (don't be surprised, this may take a few minutes).
- Then remove the pot from the heat and pour the paste into a container.
- In another saucepan, bring the milk to a boil. Whisk in ½ tablespoon of the turmeric paste until combined. Add the spices (cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, and cardamom), coconut oil, and sweetener and mix well. Simmer for 2 minutes.
- Finally, remove the pot from the heat and serve. You can strain the drink through a small sieve into the cup to avoid any lumps.
