Why we need a fashion revolution - and what you have to do with it

The Fashion Revolution Week This is no ordinary week of action—it's a call to action. Every year around April 24th, we remember one of the worst disasters in the history of the textile industry: the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh in 2013. Over 1,100 people were killed, and thousands were injured. They were sewing clothes for global fashion brands—under conditions that bore no relation to safety, fairness, or dignity.

This moment was a wake-up call for all of us. And the beginning of a global movement that asks: Who made my clothes?

The dark side of the fashion industry

A lot has changed since Rana Plaza—but not nearly enough. The fashion industry remains one of the most environmentally damaging industries in the world and a focal point for social inequality:

    • Overconsumption of clothing: Today we buy around 60% more clothes than we did 15 years ago – and wear them for only half as long (McKinsey, 2016).

    • Textile waste from fast fashion: In the US, about 85% of all clothing ends up in the landfill, even though many are still wearable (EPA, 2020).

    • CO₂ emissions from the fashion industry: The sector accounts for around 4–8% of global emissions (UNCTAD, 2019; European Commission, 2021).

    • Exploitation in textile production: Millions of people – especially women – work in precarious conditions for wages that are not enough to live on (Clean Clothes Campaign, 2022).

These figures don't represent isolated cases. They speak of everyday life in a system that functions at the expense of others.

    What's behind the fashion revolution

Fashion Revolution is not a countermovement – it is a Vision of the futureAn invitation to rethink the fashion system. Your goal? More transparency. Fair conditions. And production that respects the environment and people.

The movement asks simple but powerful questions:

    • Who made my clothes?

    • Under what conditions?

    • What does my consumption mean for others?

By asking these questions, change begins. And change can lead to revolution – quiet but powerful.

Why we at paigh are part of the fashion revolution

For us at paigh The Fashion Revolution is not a day of action, but everyday life. Since our first product, we have relied on direct collaboration with our partners – fair, transparent and with a lot of heart.

Our harem pants, jumpsuits, and accessories are lovingly handcrafted in small businesses that provide safety, joy, and dignity. Together, we show that fashion can be done differently:

    • Fair & transparently produced

    • Sustainable materials & plastic-free packaging

    • Designs that celebrate diversity

    • Clothes that feel good – inside and out

Because every piece you wear tells a story. And you help decide which ones.

    What you can do

You don't have to be an activist to become part of the fashion revolution. small steps make a difference:

    • Find out about fair fashion: Ask where your clothing comes from, what materials were used, and how transparent the company is about its supply chain. Use platforms like Fashion Checker, Good On You or Siegelklarheit.de.

    • Buy clothes consciously: Opt for quality over quantity – for example with a capsule wardrobe, second-hand pieces or fair labels such as paigh.

    • Sharing knowledge about sustainable fashion: Talk to friends about why fair fashion is important to you. Share documentaries, blog articles, or your experiences in a post – online or offline.

    • Repair and exchange clothes: Organize a clothing swap party, take your favorite pieces to the tailor, or try upcycling – an old pair of jeans can be transformed into a bag or pillowcase in no time.

What counts is not perfection. It's attitude.

Let's look together. Let's change together.

The Fashion Revolution reminds us: We have power. Through our questions, our decisions, our consumer behavior.

If we look together, we can make a difference – for the people behind the clothes and for the planet we share.

Thank you for watching with us.
