RECIPE: Make your own oat milk
Anyone who consciously avoids cow's milk, has a lactose intolerance, or simply wants to try something new will now find meter-long shelves full of it in supermarkets Milk alternatives. Oat milk is ideal for cereals and ice cream, for baking, for smoothies and shakes, and also in coffee. Oat flakes, which form the basis of the oat drink, contain valuable fiber, vitamins, minerals and proteins and can even help prevent heart disease. Recipe: Make your own oat milk
Ingredients for 1 liter
1 liter of water
60 g oat flakes*
2-3 dates (alternatively 3 tbsp date syrup or 2 tbsp maple syrup)
1 pinch of salt
½ tsp vanilla or cinnamon (optional)
*It is best to soak large leaf oat flakes in water for a few minutes beforehand so that they are easier to process. Fine or tender leaf oat flakes require no further preparation.
Aids: kitchen scales, stand mixer or hand blender, bowl, cheesecloth, container (e.g. a sealable glass bottle)

- Mix water and oat flakes and stir together briefly. Add dates, salt and vanilla.
- Mix everything well with a mixer for one to two minutes until you get a milk-like consistency.
- Run the pureed mixture through a cheesecloth into a bowl to separate the liquid from the oat residue.
- Pour the oat milk into a bottle and store in the refrigerator.
Preparation time: 5-10 minutes
