    Food against impure skin

    A healthy diet is important for protecting our bodies and our organs. This includes our largest organ—our skin.
    "Bad skin," as we so aptly call it, can have a variety of causes: genetics, PMS, stress... But a poor diet can also affect the condition of our skin. Therefore, it's worth taking a look at the foods that are good for our skin.
    While regular consumption of the foods suggested here for blemish-prone skin won't be a cure-all, it can make a bigger difference than you might initially think.
    Let's get started!

    Walnuts

    If common arguments for eating walnuts (such as protecting the cardiovascular system, slowing cancer growth, or boosting mental performance) aren't enough for you, perhaps you'll be persuaded by the fact that walnuts protect the skin. Valuable ingredients like vitamins B6 and E, zinc, and antioxidants ensure your skin stays supple and soft.

    Whether as “brain food” for snacking, in bread, cakes, yogurt, porridge or savory recipes – walnuts are incredibly versatile.

    Avocados

    Similar to walnuts, avocados contain many vitamins, minerals, and, above all, healthy, unsaturated fatty acids. These are good for skin, hair, and overall health. It moisturizes the skin, and the avocado's "vitamin cocktail" protects our cells, thus providing what's known as an "anti-aging" effect.
    Unfortunately, the cultivation of avocados, which come from America, requires huge amounts of water (about 1000 liters per kilo!). In addition, their transport route is naturally correspondingly long, which doesn't necessarily make avocados a sustainable or environmentally friendly superfood. A more conscious alternative, therefore, is organically certified avocados grown in the EU.

    Fun fact: The avocado isn't a vegetable, but a fruit! Botanically, the avocado tree belongs to the laurel family, and its fruits are therefore classified as berries!

    Sunflower seeds

    The seeds contain important nutrients, including vitamin E, an important antioxidant for the skin. Antioxidants protect cells from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes skin to age faster and contributes to diseases such as arthritis, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Sunflower seeds also contain selenium, magnesium, and protein. Selenium and protein fight wrinkles, and magnesium reduces stress levels. The most popular ways to incorporate sunflower seeds into your diet are baked into bread or as a crunchy component in salads.

    sweet potatoes

    Sweet potatoes also contain a fair amount of vitamin E, which we already know protects cells and moisturizes the skin. In addition, sweet potatoes boast another important ingredient (when it comes to skin): the health-promoting provitamin beta-carotene, which acts as a kind of natural sunscreen and can thus protect our skin from sun damage. However, sweet potatoes certainly can't replace good old sunscreen. .
    By the way, our body can best utilize beta-carotene when the sweet potato is cooked in a little fat.
    There are numerous preparation options here, too: as fries, as a baked potato, chips, or as a classic side dish. My tip: Bake the sweet potato in the oven with coconut oil and cinnamon until soft, then enjoy it in a salad.Surprisingly different and super delicious!

    tomatoes

    Tomatoes are quite similar to sunflower seeds in terms of their effect on the skin. They contain the carotenoid lycopene, which prevents oxidative stress. Like sweet potatoes, tomatoes also protect against damaging UV radiation. Therefore, skin damage and premature aging can be reduced by consuming tomatoes.
    By the way, you can also put tomato slices on your skin (in addition to the classic cucumber slices)! This was actually done back in the 1930s...

    broccoli

    Who would have thought that broccoli, of all things, could be a food for blemish-prone skin? I have to admit, I hadn't really considered broccoli before researching this topic. However, once you know what amazing nutrients and ingredients broccoli contains, it's hardly surprising: Vitamins A, C, and E moisturize the skin and ensure healthy, firm skin in the long term. In addition, the antioxidants fight destructive free radicals, thus protecting us from disease.
    Reason enough for me to include broccoli florets in my dinner tonight!

    paprika

    We already know that antioxidants and vitamins have a positive effect on our skin. Bell peppers also contain these important substances, including beta-carotene and vitamin C. Vitamin C is necessary for the production of collagen, a structural protein that strengthens our skin and keeps it youthful. Personally, I like bell peppers best raw, dipped in hummus. But bell peppers also always make a healthy, colorful addition to vegetable stir-fries, sauces, or salads.

    Green tea

    We're all familiar with the beneficial effects of green tea. Our skin also benefits greatly from green tea, as its rich minerals and vitamins promote skin health. But it goes even further: The plant's chlorophyll refreshes the skin and reduces redness. Caffeine dehydrates and thus firms the skin. In addition to its antioxidant properties, green tea's anti-inflammatory properties are also interesting. It helps against contact dermatitis and acne.

    Green tea can also be used to make soothing steam baths, scrubs, or face masks! You can find plenty of suggestions and recipes on Google and Pinterest.

    Water

    Last but not least, water, of course, couldn't be left out of this list. Water is essential for us for a variety of reasons, and one of them is the health of our skin. Even the slightest dehydration can make our skin look dry and tired.
    My skin has also taken on a whole new, fresh glow since I started making sure to drink enough.
    First, a large glass of water!
