    Sustainability apps: Part 2

Doing good from your phone? Helping reduce food waste? Getting companies to use less plastic in their products? All of this is possible! And with certain apps focused on sustainability.

+++ This post is the second part of an article about apps related to sustainability. Here You can access the first part of the article, in which I already presented six sustainability apps. +++

Donate a meal, save food from being thrown away, or refill your own water bottle – today it's all about food and eating! All the apps I'm sharing with you are both for your Android smartphone, as well as for your iPhone available.

    1. NABU Seal Check

    Nachhaltigkeitsapps: NABU Siegel Check Icon

The Seal check NABU app does exactly what the name promises: Various sealfound on food are tested for their Sustainability for nature and the environmentt checked. In addition to a simple "traffic light rating" (red, yellow, or green symbol), you receive information about the seal and the conditions that must be met for products to carry the seal. I think the app is great for getting an overview and finding your way through the seal jungle. The most well-known seals can be found in the app. The app is for free.

How it works: In the app, you can either scan a seal directly (an internet connection is required for this) or search for the desired seal in a list (this also works offline).

    2. Refill

    Refill Icon

This app uses against plastic pollution It shows you nearby refill stations where you can refill your water bottle with fresh water for free. This is particularly useful when traveling! Especially in countries where the tap water isn't as good as ours at home. Unfortunately, you can't find a refill station everywhere at the moment. In some places, like London, for example, you can find over 900 stations. In less populated regions, however, including some parts of Germany, it's difficult to find one. For there to be more refill stations, more people need to use the app. That's why I wanted to share the app with you here. I think the idea is great!

How it works: A map displays nearby refill stations. Selecting one provides more information. In addition to accessing refill stations, you can also add your own refill stations once you've found or set up one.

    3. Share the Meal

    Share The Meal Icon

With Share The Meal you help to feed needy children40 cents is enough to feed a child for a day. All meals are distributed by the United Nations World Food Programme. As an app user, you get insight into how your donation is being used. You can also donate monthly, select a free amount, or donate as a gift to someone else. In total, several different projects are supported, each of which is explained in more detail.More than 2 million people have Share The Meal Already supported, over 56 million meals have been shared! A great thing. The app itself is for freeYou decide how much, when, and how often you donate.

How it works: Open the app, select a project, and donate. :)

    4. HappyCow

    HappyCow Icon

This app is an absolute must for anyone who plant-based dietVegans and vegetarians can quickly find nearby dining options. In addition to completely vegan or vegetarian cafes and restaurants, the app also lists restaurants that offer omnivorous dishes with vegetarian or vegan options. This app is a huge help, especially on vacation or while traveling! The unique Price of 5 euros In my experience, it's absolutely fine. The app is easy to use in German, but the descriptions of cafés and restaurants are almost exclusively in English.

How it works: Simply enter the location where you're looking for restaurants. You'll get a list of available restaurants and cafes, market stalls, food trucks, etc. Additional filters simplify your search. You can also view the results on a map. In addition to a description, you can also see opening hours and reviews.

    5. PETA TWO

    PETA ZWEI Icon

Also targeting plant-based diet, the app offers PETA TWO a practical Shopping Guide. This makes it especially suitable for new vegans. Which sweets are vegan again? Wait, wasn't there cheese in that pasta sauce? This app provides quick relief. All vegan foods listed here are PETA-verified. The database is constantly updated and expanded with the help of the community. The app is for free, yay!

How it works: In the app, you can select the supermarket or bakery you're interested in and browse vegan products there. Or you can choose a category and quickly find, for example, all kinds of vegan chocolate.

    6. UXA - Food Sharing

    UXA Foodsharing Icon

Similar to TooGoodToGo want UXA Save food and thus combat food waste. This app works in such a way that you (and not cafes, restaurants, or supermarkets) post food that you have leftover or that you don't currently need. Others can then pick up the food. You can also browse and pick up food from other people nearby. Unfortunately, the app isn't very well known yet, so it largely depends on where you live in Germany. The availability of food will naturally change as more people use the app. It's for free.

How it works: On the app's homepage, you'll find food items offered by others. These items can also be displayed on a map. You can also search for products. If you want to list a food item yourself, all you need to do is take a photo and provide some basic information.
